Ron Garland

Georgetown City Council District 4

For the past 16 years, Ron Garland has made serving the City of Georgetown a top priority. He has been a member of the Georgetown Rotary Club; the Georgetown Economic Development Corporation; the Capital Area Council of Governments; the Georgetown Water Utility Board; and since 2022, City Councilman representing District 4. Now, in 2025, Ron is running for re-election. He is a proven leader for a growing  community.

Professional Background

At the age of 17, Ron achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and then went on to serve the Boy Scouts of America (now known as Scouting America) for 39 years helping young people to fulfill and to live the core values of the Boy Scouts: to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. These are also the values that Ron lives by daily. While working for the Boy Scouts, Ron:

  • served in 6 Councils, retiring in 2009 as the CEO of the 10th largest Council in the USA
  • led diverse staffs ranging in size from 5 to 75 men and women
  • managed multi-million dollar budgets, and raised funds in the millions of dollars
  • facilitated solutions to complex and sometimes contentious situations
  • led large capital campaigns to build new offices in three of the five councils served, as well as campaigns to build and upgrade camp facilities

Whichever community Ron lived and worked in during his professional career, he developed relationships and worked closely with the local Chambers of Commerce and Rotary Clubs, as well as joining community boards and task forces in order to be part of the community and to make a difference.

Garland’s Vision for the City of Georgetown

I ran for City Council because I wanted to be involved in the future of the city of Georgetown and I have the desire to make Georgetown a dynamic city while keeping its historic character.

As I campaign for my second term, I plan to focus on:

  • Long Range Water Planning: We’ve signed two contracts for long-term water supplies; are building the South Lake Water Treatment Plant due for completion in 2025; and upgraded the North Lake Treatment Plant in 2024. As chairman of the Georgetown Water Utility Board I am committed to long-term planning for our water supply.
  • Managing Rapid Growth: We are balancing growth while preserving Georgetown’s small-town charm with a thoughtful mix of strategic and smart urban planning, transportation and mobility, water and utilities management and community engagement.
  • Mobility and Transportation: The Georgetown Future Mobility Plan was updated and approved in December 2023 and is critical in the overall development of the City. We continually evaluate needs and create sustainable goals for residents’ transportation needs.
  • Public Safety: Our City is frequently ranked among the best places to live in Texas, and is generally considered a safe city. To keep our City safe, I will work to ensure that we have adequate funding and support for our police, fire and EMS.
